About

From its beginnings, IWC has been focused on empowerment, equality, diversity, culture and respect—with community service the driving force behind its operations.

This ethos has carried over into the IWC’s role as the Local Area Coordinator (LAC) for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). As the LAC, the IWC-NDIS currently operates within the Bundaberg Regional Council Local Government Area. In our role as LAC, the IWC-NDIS provides planning conversations for individuals with a disability from 7 years of age up to 65 years.

The IWC-NDIS-LAC’s Community Connect Website

The IWC-NDIS-LAC has developed this website to provide current and easily accessible information to people with a disability, whether or not they are NDIS participants. This resource is also available to local service providers and community groups.

The information within this website can help people with a disability connect to their community, making our region more inclusive in the process.

This website’s information is particularly helpful for NDIS participants looking to implement their plan for the first time. Implementation empowers the participant to better connect with service providers in their local area.

Through providing this website the IWC-NDIS-LAC aims to supply individuals with or without a disability a source of high quality, accessible, relevant and easy to understand information.

The website can also help identify useful resources in the community that are not NDIS registered service providers, such as:

  • programs within the health system;
  • private businesses;
  • service clubs;
  • sports/hobby clubs;
  • community groups.

By utilising the services listed on the website, people with a disability can gain the skills and confidence they need to increase their participation in their community. By gaining these skills, people with a disability will be better able to protect their rights and to contribute to their community in a meaningful way.

I don’t mind the thought of employing someone, on my terms. The freedom and choice under NDIS is phenomenal.
